CRUISE TO THE GAP

Our 23 Year History

The “Cruise to the Gap” has grown from a small display of vehicles and a handful of vendors to what you see here today with the help of many, many local volunteers and sponsors.  Originally, the show was put on by the local Fire Company, led by enthusiasts Tommy Knitter and Randy Ehle.  As their manpower diminished in being able to run the growing show, the Wind Gap Area Athletic Association picked up the reigns and has sponsored the show ever since.

The 1993 “Cruise to the Gap”, coinciding with the Borough of Wind Gaps’ “Gap in Time” Centennial Celebration festivities, was the largest show ever with close to 750 vehicles on display.  Not only did the show cars display their horsepower, but the Budweiser Clydesdales were on hand!

Now that’s horsepower!

This year’s show is again sponsored by the Wind Gap Area Athletic Association and supported by many community volunteers and business sponsorsEach year the proceeds from the show are used to promote worthwhile activities within our community, including charities and scholarships.  Your support of the food, entertainment and other activities will be appreciated and will allow for bigger and better shows in the future.

The theme vehicle of the 23rd Annual “Cruise to the Gap” was a 1968 Camaro Z28.  With the new concept Camaro making waves at the Detroit Auto Show, we mark the beginning of a new Camaro era with a remembrance of the original design.  The ’68 Camaro Z28 was featured on the Dash Plaque and displayed on the Participation Award, a commemorative 1:24 scale plaque.  Both are presented FREE to the first 350 pre-registered vehicles.   Not to mention, this year, we were able to give out Goodie Bags with various items donated by local sponsors, for our participants.

The participation awards from past shows are becoming more and more valued among past and present participants.  Some plaques and awards have even been found in local collectors shops and even have been found on Ebay!

As we prepare for the 25th Annual “Cruise to the Gap” in 2008, we are setting a goal to match the 750 vehicles from the 1993 Spring Classic.  With your help, and continued sponsor support, including MORE give-aways, BIGGER goodie bags and LARGER raffle prizes, we plan on making this goal a reality!

Tell a friend about your great experience at our show!

The “Cruise to the Gap” committee and organizers, sponsors and volunteers would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fine people who bring their vehicles out to our show each year, displaying some of the finest vehicles from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and even Delaware!

See you again at the next…
